Violet Louise Hoodenpyle was born May 31, 1922 in Montauk, Missouri to
Taylor and Alma (Krewson) Spencer and passed away August 21, 2017 in

Violet loved reading and sewing. She worked over 25 years for International
Shoe Company. She was so quick and good at sewing that one of the
company heads was sent out to Salem to watch her sew! Much later in life
Violet began painting and became an award winning oil painter. Probably her
biggest joy was mowing her lawn in her 80's! Before moving to Portland five
years ago, she spent her entire life in the Salem area where she was an
active member and loved the trail rides at the Salem Saddle Club. She was a
leader in Dry Fork Wide Awake 4-H Club for 15 years and became an expert
leather tooler. She hand made billfolds for many Salem residents. Violet
attended Dry Fork Baptist Church and Salem Christian Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and husband, Roger D.
Survivors include her son, J. David Hoodenpyle and wife, Mary, Portland,
Oregon; sisters, Inez Sewell and husband, Allen, St. Louis, Melba Senter and

Amanda, Richland, Washington, Amy Jernigan and husband, Keith,
Bainbridge Island, Washington; great grandchildren, Emily and Anna
