Vernie Asher was born April 7, 1930 in Bixby, Missouri to Henry Preston and
Girtie Luvinia (Stricklin) Asher and passed away June 1, 2018 in
Fredericktown, Missouri at the age of eighty-eight years.
Vernie taught 100's of students starting out in a one room school and ending
her 40 plus years teaching at South Iron School District. Although she had no
children of her own, she helped raise her siblings and offered a helping hand
to her nieces and nephews. Sissy, as she was fondly known, enjoyed
gardening, knitting, crocheting, quilting and flowers. She was a member of
Hickory Grove Assembly of God. Vernie preached for 65 years and was a
pastor almost 30 years. She was saved in October, 1948.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sisters, Della Walker and Mabel
Asher; brothers, Herman Asher and Montie Asher.
Survivors include her brothers, Jackson Asher and wife, Ruth, St. James;
Emmett Asher, Bixby; Vernon Asher and wife, Mary Lou, Caledonia; sisters,
Goldie Keister, Des Arc; Helen Walz, Viburnum; several nieces, nephews,
extended family and friends.
Vernie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral service for Vernie Asher was held Wednesday, June 06, 2018 at
Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel with Bro. Paul Davis officiating, special
music was provided by Sharon Hedrick and Andrea Bumpus. Serving as
pallbearers were, Henry Asher, Randy Asher, Jeff Asher, Nathan Asher, Gary
Asher, Josh Campbell and Mike Thompson, honorary pallbearers were,
Kenneth Asher and Jay Seely. Interment was in the Crocker-Stricklin
