|James E. "Jim" Hocker 1928 ~ 2018
James E. "Jim" Hocker was born September 18, 1928 in Ponca City,
Oklahoma to Charles Richard and Verba (Rice) Hocker and passed away
March 25, 2018 in Salem, Missouri at the age of eighty-nine years.
Jim was married to Phyllis Shreckengaust, also of Ponca City. They had two
daughters before moving to Salem in 1958. Jim owned and operated Hocker
Oil Company for 55 years. He was a member of the Salem Jaycees, served
on the Salem Hospital Board, Dent County Fire District Board, and Missouri
Oil Jobbers. Jim loved animals. He enjoyed his Great Danes and English
Mastiff dogs, peacocks, and raising cattle (including many Long Horns) and
Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles and Verba Hocker; wife,
Phyllis Hocker; and sister, Iris Whitesell.
Survivors include his children, Cindy Sachs and husband, Jacques, Salem;
Melissa Nettles, New York City, New York; grandchildren, Andrea Wilson and
husband, Rick, The Woodlands, Texas; Ben Sachs, St. Louis; great
grandchildren, Emily, Sam, and Caroline Wilson; and special dog, "Duke".
Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral service for James E. “Jim” Hocker was held Saturday, March 31,
2018 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Dr. Jay Tune officiating.
Family remarks were shared by Ben Sachs. Special music was provided by
Ed Morris and Jimmy Cotner. Serving as pallbearers were Ben Sachs, Sam
Wilson, James Swindell, Darrell Layman, Mark Weaver and Jeff Layman.
Honorary pallbearers were Rick Wilson, Dave Calvert, Calvin McIntosh and
Norman Anderson. Interment was in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
